So Damn Tired!

I went to Boultan Market today (yeah this spelling is new to me, I read this on the local fire station there), and man it was tiring! (Esp. when I had just had a 90 minutes sleep the night before!) It’s like a whole separate world down there! I just went down there to get some chemicals to develop a PCB for my microcontrollers project, and it took me over 4 hours in the scorching heat and choking dust to find just 2 of the five things I needed! Every shopkeeper I asked about the materials pointed me in a new direction, and so I experienced things that I had never experienced before! First, the parking! Finding parking space at 10:30am wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience. Once I parked at a feasible space, this guy comes over and says: ‘Money and keys.’ and I’m like…‘What!?’. Turns out that the space was a no parking zone, but this guy had connections with the police to keep my car from being towed. Asking for directions wasn’t a smart idea. People in that place have no idea where you can find a certain commodity. When you ask for Ferric Chloride, or Tri sodium Phosphate (even when you ask chemists), people will point you to the funniest places like rang wala’s! You can get just about anything from Boultan Market as long as you know the right place. While scavenging the market, I crossed gali’s in progression that transitioned from selling cloth to dyes to knitting material to heavy machinery to hardware to cell phones to washing powders to medicine to fruits! Just name it! People have got the funniest names for streets. Like kachhi gali, which is funny because all gali’s were kacchi! People have very weird religious inclinations. While passing through Memon Masjid (minaret pictured above), I saw people taking off their shoes when crossing a particular patch of land. As I approached the area, I saw that it was actually a mazar. My mother tells me that the mazar wasn’t there when she went to work there at Habib Bank, which means that the mazar has just been recently built! Anyway, I was in no mood to remove my shoes, since I do not believe in these things (do we not cross graveyards with shoes on?). But I took them off nonetheless, fearing the reaction of the people who were earnestly doing so. Also, people were offering salat (prayer / namaz) facing towards the mazar instead of the Qiblah. There is too much misery in this world to put into words.

One – when you’re busy, even thirty minutes of free time can mean more than having a whole weekend to yourself!

Two, anyone who hasn’t seen PS I Love You yet, should. Ufff it’s a must-watch movie, definitely! That is one romantic movie, I tell you! Again, if you haven’t seen it already, do your romantic side a favor, (if you’ve got the XX chromosome, grab a tissue box :P ) and watch the movie. It was just awesome! And Hillary Swank was simply brilliant!! Okay, there might have been a few weak moments in terms of acting, but with all those small romantic touches, it was easy to overlook them! By the way, Hillary Swank has now joined ranks amongst my The Most Attractive Women list after Kate Beckinsale and Sophie Milman ;)

In fact, the movie was so romantic, I had to watch SAW IV to wash all the romance off me! :P I sat down with a bag of kettles rosemary and garlic chips to watch the movie at night, and you know what? After watching three SAW movies, you’d think that you’d be able to watch the fourth one while eating something. And you’d be dead wrong! :P

Three, listen to this song now (Video, Lyrics).

Four, and most importantly – lots of prayers needed! Especially for the next two months, a very huge project is going on, and also, the annual appraisal is coming up! :) So again, prayers needed from everyone! :)

Spoiler Alert – do not read further if you haven’t seen the movie: I loved the last dialog of the movie – “I’ll write back to you soon!” :)

I tried watching it on the plane and though i adore gerard butler i couldn’t last more than ten minutes

Maybe it was because i watched the mist, atonement, lions for lambs and michael clayton before trying p.s i love you. After the first two movies i was on the verge of hanging myself with the plane blanket.

[...] This cup of tea was served by: I AM The Universe: Random Thoughts [...]

Hahaha, this reminds me. I watched it in the plane on my way to Karachi, and I was shit excited, thus, I think I forgot to cry.
:P
But, the movie was good.

hilary swank attractive?! kahan say?? ;)

oh finally a guy who liked that flick! i watched it with a few friends of mine on my last visit to manchester earlier this year…and all the guys just hated it cuz they thought it was…ummm…too mushy

Man I hate this movie a lot. The movie was recommended by my wife’s friend and we watched it on one sunny Sunday. My wife cried so much that she didn’t prepare lunch and I had to buy stuff from outside. Husbands! Don’t let your wives watch this movie.

Karachiwali, wah wah! writing about hijab and all and watching this movie with guys? tum tau mujhe Mullah jackson lagti ho…oops! I mean mullani jackon(kidding) :-)

I’ve seen Hilary Swank only in Million Dollar Baby and Insomnia. I slept through Million Dollar Baby; loved Insomnia.

So, I guess, it’s a 50/50 chance with liking P.S. I Love You. Hmm.

Dude, seriously, WTF?

Watching P.S. I Love You and SAWs together, you sound like a cross between Safiullah and a girl.

But I have to agree, Hillary Swank is gooood!

Man I hate chick flicks….. Hell I even hated the X – fLies Movie. Exams are getting near so I m getting out my “dusty” collection of the three Back to the Future’ movies. Its been a ritual since the NUST days.

As for Gerard Butler, I only kinda liked him in that very gay 300 movie. The only thing I liked about that movie was the Oracle.

And Dude, My 3G is on its way!!!!

And SAWJ….. Ohhh shut up.

What am I??? Some kinda Moster? I hope I scare you at night!!! Besides I hate watching Psycho Horror flicks, When I do, I start thinking like a goddamn serial killer.

The only serial killer flick I adore are the four Hannibal movies and the Bone collector, and the later was absolutely not because of Angelina Jolie. I hate that chick too.

@ Nomad
arey they are old friends, i did my masters with them. 1.5 saal namak khaya hai un logon ney mera (i was actually there only hope for home cooked desi food back then) :P many of them stayed back for their phd and stuff. there were only 3 girls in the class of 147…talk about gender equality in the west!

“talk about gender equality in the west!”

and on your blog

“I still get stared at wen I do not take my hijab off at weddings….from practically everyone”

Wah wah! tussi great ho!! Yany jaisa des waisa bhes ka sahi istimal kia tumney. Jab tak Pakistani mey tu Islamic rules ko follow karna;Hijab, nazrain neechi blah blah aur jab west me tu “gender equality”

So all ‘namahram’ stuff is valid as long as you are in your country as if Allah exist only in Pakistan eh? :-)

Aur phir hum goro ko galian detay hain.

I had reason to call you Mullani Jackson. Thank Gawd I have not met you in real :P (kidding).

tum confuse lagti ho mujhey. Bura nahi manna meri behan. :-)

Karachiwali, I have lived 4 years in US and I have met many Muslims over there who do not forget there Islamic value after experience Western freedom and my expeirence tells such Muslims are respected more by non-Muslims than wannabe Muslims. Thank Gawd I have not met you in real yet. :-)

Ohhhh Comon Yaar…. Does everybody has to use big words in every comment?????

I thought this post was about a goddamn movie! One which I hated!

I agree with Nomad though. One should stick to their roots no matter where they are, but that does n’t mean to not be adaptable, flexible and tolerant. I have always believed that Islam is the single most practical religion in the world, which intrinsically has adaptability and tolerance embedded in its core. I suggest one should observe common sense and a lil power of deduction. Besides that I have no comment on Muslims abroad and Muslims here, none of us are even worthy to be called one, We are all Hypocrites. if this was n’t so Muslims all over would n’t be in such a dreary plight.

I think it would be next to impossible for a woman to study anywhere if she followed Nomad’s philosophy. Just the fact that karachiwali kept her hijaab on throughout her education in the west speaks of her high character.
And from what i recall, passing judgements was also considered unislamic. But zahir he, religion only works when it’s applied on someone else.

thanks Hira that was very sweet…

@ nomad
i basically dont understand how studying with guys in UK is unislamic, while working with and teaching men in pakistan can be deemed islamic (or at par with our cultural values). if you do not know as yet, i am a very independent women and taking the hijab was my own personal choice…and hence the stares that i get. if i watch a movie in a cinema with a group of friends in UK, which includes both males and females, how does that make me one of those ‘wannabe’ muslims? i actually go out and watch movies in the cinema here in pakistan as well. so that means i am not taking advantage of my freedom cuz im doing that in pakistan?i think you passed your judgement cuz u just had to after reading just one post of mine and u havent noticed that I also write about my love for cinema, music and other forms of art. i have never claimed that I am a very religious muslimah. i am in the learning process like everyone else, just that im not a hypocrite and i accept that i enjoy watching movies and listening to music. ofcourse i have never said that these should be considered islamic in any way (which means im not practicing kufr, im just a bad muslimah)
in fact, u SHOULD be really glad that u havent me! so the next time you try to be judgemental about others, make sure you know wat you are doing

LOLz. I am not religious neither I try to be one but that “gender equility” thing in West movie made me laugh. I was trying to understand the conflict. I did not pass any judgement at all.

I am not against movies and I myself have watched this movie and several other movies. :-) -Have a nice day.

Karachi wali behan aur Hira behan, maaf kardena. I am not religious neither I try to be one but that “gender equility” thing in West to watch that particular movie made me laugh. I was trying to understand the conflict. I did not pass any judgement at all.

I am not against movies and I myself have watched this movie and several other movies.

Karachi wali behan aur Hira behan, mujhay maaf kardena.Have a nice day. :-)

@Hira: :P Hanging yourself by the airline blanket? Hey, neat idea! I mean, at least you won’t get marks on your neck that way! I mean, who wants to look bad up there :P

@Qurrat: Lol! Has anybody seen this movie off a plane? :P

@FarooqK: Oh no no no, I see where you’re trying to take this conversation, and I’m not gonna go there :P Well, my taste in beauty is a little.. unconventional – non-conformist, if you will? I got teased all through college for thinking that Amy Lee is beautiful :P

@Nomad: Lol! Perhaps if you had seen it under different circumstances? :P

@Saadat: Oh I think you’ll like it.

@SAWJ: By that logic, you’d be a cross between a child, and something else that’s really childish? :P And yes, she is!

@Saffi: Man, when do you not think like a serial killer? :P Whenever you’re on the road you do, that’s for sure! :P And I’m beginning to think you dislike all females… Hmmmm :P Yes, I’m being cruel to you because of the 3G :P

@Nomad: So, you mean to say that there’s something wrong with having dinner in mixed company? Or in watching movies in mixed company? Is that something you won’t do? At all or even just in Pakistan? That intensely doesn’t make any sense to me. And I think that we should put in some extra thought before implying that someone is a wannabe Muslim.

@Saffi: The key words being tolerant and flexible.

Exactly my man… Tolerant and flexible. Like I have said a million times, the world is not in black and white. Come to think of it, True Black and True White don’t even exist. The world is completely in shades of gray.

Ohh you can be as cruel you want about the 3G! I M HAPPY!!! In fact you should thank me, it was either that or a new Graphics Card. O was thinking the nVidia GTX 290. Man its soooo cool and so sexy.

And dude I m no Misogynist… I only hate Angelina Jolie, the chick has lips like a Chimpenzee. And she is too scrawny for my taste.

@ Nomad
as for the gender equality thing..that was supposed to be sarcastic. i was one of the 3 girls (one was from china, other from greece) and there were 144 boys in my class (33 of them being pakistanis)….where’s the equality!!! i just meant that the difference is very much there in the west too.
khair maaf kiya! :)

@ absar
i thought this was ur blog and this post was supposed to be about you :P this post should be renamed and dedicated to me and my religious inclinations ;)

absar…ur fb status needs to be changed!

@SAWJ: Still better than being a cross between Safiullah and a girl. That makes you a Barbie Stalker!

@SAWJ: So true man…. Dude you and I have only one thing in common, we both want to see absar miserable. Why don’t we team up?!

@Karachiwali: Dude I thought this WAS your blog. Nice hostile takeover… Just don’t takeover mine. I m very possesive, and I am NOT a lay back like absar. HEHE

By the way… where is the fur brain?!!

@Safi: Excellent idea mate!

Come out COme out where ever you are!!!! Can Absar come out and PLAY!!!!

Oh no, he’s watching a freaky remake of some romantic movie!

It was either the blanket or the earphones.
