A Sad Cab Ride

I had a very unusual taxi ride home today. The driver was the kind of person who makes you really, really uncomfortable. No, he wasn’t dirty, or dressed all wrong, but there was something about the look on his face that was very… creepy! Not suspicious, just creepy. For one thing, he kept calling me saab, which I’m not at all comfortable with. Then there was this series of questions that made me even more uncomfortable. Him: What school do you go to, sir? Me: I’m a university student. I go to PNS Jauhar at Karsaz. Him: Oh. What class are you in, sir? Me: (Not sure how to answer him) I’m studying engineering. Him: What class is that sir? Me: It comes after intermediate. (I wasn’t sure if he would know what A Levels is) Him: So it’s, 13, 14? Me: Yes, I’m in 16. Him: 16!!?? Me: Yes, it is an awful long course. Him: You’ve studies 11 years longer than I have, sir. Me: (silence) Him: What are you going to do next, sir? Me: (Not wanting to go into it, of course) Wherever life takes me. Now came a series of statements that made me more sad than uncomfortable. Him: Sir, become a doctor! (His actual words were: Saab aap dactary ka course kar lo!) Me: (Silence, feeling a cloud grow around my heart, and a lump in my throat, knowing that for this man, this was the height of education, respect and wealth any human could attain) Him: Become a doctor and go abroad! (Dactary ka course kar ke bahar chalay jao!) Me: (Speaking with difficulty now) It’s a left from here.

Yesterday I watched this movie that I had dismissed as being just another movie about Richard Gere’s fidelity – Shall We Dance. It wasn’t. In fact it was quite a pleasant movie. There’s a scene where Susan Sarandon is talking about marriage, and that was for me the best dialog in the entire movie:

We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet… I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things… all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness’.”

So I guess I’m already married to this blog, eh? :P We all need witnesses, right? Plural? Okay I should stop writing now…P.S. Ladies, I know you love Richie, but come on, aren’t we all sick of the redundancy in his roles? It’s like medieval movie – Russell Crowe. Movie about male fidelity – Richard Gere.

Ahh redundant roles … I still like em and would love to see him in same genre :P

The movie in itself was a bit different, No??

I liked it a lot … not a common love story where girl gets the boy at the end (what if the boy is in his 50’s ;-) )

Oh yeah PLURAL *_*

I watched “Shall We Dance” a long time ago, so probably that’s why I don’t remember the lines you are talking about. What I do remember is Gere and his colleague practising to dance in the restroom, when another person barges in, and the colleague pretends to collapse while Gere exclaims, “Call 911! Call 911!” :D

By the way, how many medieval movies has Crowe worked in? I only know of “Gladiator”.

@Asma: Hahah. Thought so :D

@Saadat: Lol! Yeah man that was an awesome scene too! I laughed so hard my gut started hurting! :P

I can only recall that Master and Commander, but it sure seems he does a lot of ‘em :P

Man say what you like about Richard Gere. But I ll break your neck if you talk bad about Russel Crowe… Have you seen the American Ganster. Saw iut last night. Very cool movie.

Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe Rock.
Besides, right noiw I m waiting for Hitman. Sounds cool.

@Safiullah: Lol! Yeah man I was excited about that too. But then I saw the trailer, and man the guys a sissy! :P

erm.. so.. you are married to this blog? :P

ahahahah I… *laughing* .. just cant get over that fact… :| *choke*

lolll

Not a very realistic end though :-) .
Married to your blog…do you think you will give THIS MUCH time to your marriage???!! God bless you man. ;-)

Eid Mubarak, dude! :)

@Sadia: I’m glad you guys saw the humor in married to my blog but I think Sadia is taking quite a different angle on that! :D
