Learning
Getting a driving license here in Abu Dhabi is a huge task. It’s not like in Pakistan back in the old days where you could walk up to the traffic station, whip out Rs.250 and walk out with a drivers license in two hours. Or less. What has changed in the past years is only the amount you need to whip out. The process remains the same.
Anyway, here you have to sign up at the traffic station, then go to a registered training school, get theory lessons, then get practical lessons, then after certain prescribed hours of practical lessons, you get to give the road test. If you have a license of your home country, you can skip out on the practical lessons and directly get to the road test after passing the theory tests.
Now actually getting appointments for these tasks alone is a mammoth task! I registered for theory classes about a week back, and I found out that evening classes are jam packed until the 31st of August! Which means that if I clear the theory out by 7th September and apply for the road test the same day, then I probably get a road test date a further two or three months down the line! So, I instead signed up for the morning classes…. the cold, inhuman, painful 6:50 AM morning classes. On Saturdays.
I hate procedures! Especially those that make you wake up in the morning to learn!! I mean, I’ll go to China to learn (especially since the Olympics are set ), but a class 0650hrs? Come on people, rehem karo thora!
Anyway, I was under the impression that tomorrow was my first class. Before going to bed today, I just thought that I’d re-check the schedule – just in case. And as it turns out, the date for my first class, magically, is 16th of August! I can’t tell you how happy I am right now! I mean of course, I’ll have to get up that early next week, but at least now I can ponder over having it postponed until the evening classes become available!
I’m so happy!!!
