Yipppeee! Yahooooo! Whoooooo!

Call me crazy! Call me free! Ladies and gents, yesterday was my last paper for my BE degree. I can now consider myself an engineer! Thank you all for your prayers! It was amazing! After the paper finished, we all gathered at the café and signed each others shirts, and violated just about every rule in the book that we possibly could! We even got into the parade ground and took photographs! How daring, right? Look if you’re not impressed with the whole parade ground breach, you’ve probably never been to a naval unit before These guys worship the place. (I hope no one from college is reading this or I’m screwed! ) About the shirt signing, it was so much fun! Some of the most funny comments were: BEWARE when I turn, my teeth are HUGE! HOW-AM-I-DRIVING 0345-1234567 (The guy who got this is a total leadfoot!) BE-ROZGAAR “Jaa shoday, supply ki tayyari kar!” There were more, but I couldn’t possibly put them up on a blog! Now that I’m finally a graduate, I wonder what lies ahead of me. When I was in my O’ Levels, Aamanna used to tell me that that was the most important phase of my life. That it was the stepping stone for the rest of my career. When I was in my A’ Levels, he told me that getting good grades in A’ Levels was what mattered the most, and that a good result would guarantee admission into a good University. When I got into NUST with their BE program, he told me not to go over my head, since this was really the start of my career, and that doing well at University would mean a stable career ahead of me. The thing is, I believed him every time, and that served me well. Thank you, Aamanna, for all the inspiration that you’ve given me, and all the prayers that you’ve done for me. Thank you so much for everything! Now I’m just waiting for you to tell me how important the next phase of my life is

You thought I was talking about moving domains, didn’t you you techy little scoundrel! ;) But no, I’m actually talking about the real-world me. Yeah, there’s a real-world me, and yes, I do have a life. Anyway. So it happened. We’ve moved to a bigger place. We moved.. wait for it… seh-vun-tee-six cartons of stuff from our old place to the new. 76. Chiattar. Sitta saba’een. From a two-room apartment. Yes, we had a lot of stuff. Under the bed. Over the cupboards. Behind cabinets. In the corner under the table in neat little boxes. Lots and lots of stuff. But it’s all moved over now to a quiet little place. Okay not so little, it’s actually huge. Especially when you consider that most of the time only three people are gonna be there. It’s just a five minute walk from the corniche, so that’s a plus. Plus I’m finally gonna have a bed, rather than crashing on the couch :P

But truth be told, I’m gonna miss the old apartment a bit. We’ve lived here for a good fifteen years now, and it just feels like home. Sure it was getting a little cramped for us, and sure there were annoyances of age, but there’s things I’d grown used to about this place. I’ll always remember that you have to turn the key the wrong way to open the door. I’ll remember that in the summer, the hot water tap runs cool water, and the cool water tap runs hot water because of the exposed tanks. I’ll remember that there’s a light-bulb socket behind the wardrobe that can’t be used. I’ll remember that the wall behind that same cupboard is a dirty beige color compared to the creamy white in other places, because the damn thing was too freaking heavy to be moved for painting behind it. I’ll remember that apartment on our floor where Bengali bachelors lived (GOD I didn’t ever see the same guy go in twice in the same apartment). I’ll remember the day I got my O Levels result in that apartment. I’ll remember the day I shot my music video in this apartment. Yes, there was a music video. Get over it. I’ll remember 1997. I’ll remember 2009. I’ll remember that Ramadan.

But soon, I’ll begin to remember 2010. And 11. Here’s to the future.
